Abramelin Oil — Sacred Anointing Oil for Consecration, Prayer & Ceremonial Work
Abramelin Oil is one of the most storied and ceremonially significant anointing oils in the Western esoteric tradition — rooted in high ceremonial magic and Kabbalistic mysticism. Its origins trace to the Book of Abramelin, a 15th-century grimoire attributed to Abraham of Worms, a Jewish mystic who received the formula from the Egyptian mage Abramelin the Mage.
The formula is based on the biblical holy anointing oil of Exodus 30:23 myrrh, cinnamon, calamus, and cassia in an olive oil base — and has been adopted by the Golden Dawn, Thelemic tradition, and modern Hoodoo practitioners alike as a cornerstone of consecration and spiritual elevation work.
Traditional Uses
- Anointing & consecration — Used to consecrate altars, ritual tools, candles, talismans, and sacred objects before ceremonial work
- Holy Guardian Angel work — The traditional use: anointing oneself during extended operations of prayer and spiritual attainment
- Spiritual elevation & prayer — Applied to the forehead, hands, and heart before prayer, meditation, or devotional practice
- Protection & sanctification — Used to bless and protect a space, person, or object from spiritual interference
- Candle dressing — Applied to petition candles and altar lights for high spiritual work
- Talisman activation — Used to anoint and activate written petitions, seals, and magical papers
