Break the Condition. Clear the Way.

A crossed condition is a state of spiritual interference — a tangle of bad luck, blocked roads, and persistent misfortune that seems to follow you no matter what you do. It may have been laid by an enemy, picked up unknowingly, or accumulated over time through neglect of your spiritual hygiene. Whatever its source, Uncrossing Oil is crafted in the deep hoodoo tradition to cut through it, dissolve it, and restore you to your natural state of flow and fortune.

Before you can build, you must clear. Before you can draw good things in, you must remove what is blocking them. Uncrossing is where the real work begins.

In the Folklore

Crossed conditions are one of the most fundamental concepts in American hoodoo. A person who is crossed may experience a run of bad luck that defies explanation — relationships failing, money slipping away, health declining, opportunities vanishing just as they appear. Root doctors were trained to diagnose crossed conditions and prescribe the appropriate remedy.

The classic uncrossing working involved a series of ritual baths using hyssop — the biblical herb of purification, referenced in Psalm 51: "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean." The bather would wash from the head downward, praying the condition away, then dress with uncrossing oil to seal the cleansing and protect against re-crossing. Candles — typically white or purple — were burned to illuminate the path forward once the condition was cleared. What was knotted is now loosed. What was blocked now flows.

Suggested Uses

  • Anoint yourself after an uncrossing or hyssop bath to seal the cleansing
  • Dress a white or purple candle to break a crossed condition
  • Apply to the body from head downward while praying for release from bad luck
  • Use on petition papers naming the condition you wish dissolved
  • Anoint door thresholds after a home cleansing to prevent re-crossing
