Write It. Burn It. Release It to the Universe.
The Bay Laurel is one of the most ancient and storied magical herbs in the Western tradition — a plant crowned with divine favor, worn by emperors and poets, and used by oracles to open the gates of prophecy. In the folk magic tradition, Bay Leaf is the premier herb of wishing, manifestation, and joy — used to carry written intentions into the spirit world through fire, to draw happiness and success, and to open the way for what you most desire to arrive.
Write your wish on a Bay Leaf. Hold it. Mean it. Burn it. The smoke carries your intention where words alone cannot reach.
Folklore & Magical Uses
In ancient Greece and Rome, the Bay Laurel was sacred to Apollo — god of the sun, prophecy, poetry, and achievement. The laurel wreath crowned victors, emperors, and poets as a symbol of divine favor and earthly triumph. At the Oracle of Delphi, the Pythia — the sacred prophetess — burned Bay Laurel leaves and inhaled their smoke to enter the prophetic trance state through which she received Apollo’s visions. Bay was understood to open the mind to divine communication and carry human intention upward to the gods.
In the folk magic and hoodoo tradition, Bay Leaf is most famously used in wish-burning rituals — writing a desire, intention, or petition on the leaf and burning it to release the wish into the universe. Its association with victory and achievement makes it powerful in workings for success, recognition, and the fulfillment of goals. It is also used in protection workings — the Romans hung Bay above doorways to ward off lightning, illness, and evil — and in psychic development practices to sharpen intuition and prophetic dreaming. The laurel has always known the way to the divine. It still does.
