A Sacred Banner of the Sacred Serpents of Creation
Handcrafted in the living tradition of Haitian Vodou, this ceremonial drapo (flag) is consecrated to Damballa and Aida Wedo — the divine serpent couple who together form the axis of creation. Damballa, the great white serpent, is the oldest and most serene of all the lwa, the father of the sky and the keeper of ancient wisdom. His wife, Aida Wedo, is the rainbow serpent, the bridge between heaven and earth, embodying grace, fertility, and the covenant between the divine and humanity. Together they coil around the cosmic tree, sustaining the world in their eternal embrace.
Drapo are not mere decoration; they are living vessels, sewn with intention and adorned with sequins and beadwork to capture and reflect the light of the divine. This flag is carried in ceremony to call Damballa and Aida Wedo forward, to invoke their primordial blessing, and to honor the covenant between the living and the first parents of the Rada nation.
