Black 7 Day Glass Candle
Not the Color of Evil. The Color of What Absorbs Evil. There Is a Difference, and It Matters.
Black has been misread for a long time in the popular imagination associated with darkness in the moral sense, with malevolence, with the working of harm. That misreading comes from a tradition that confused the color of night with the nature of night, that forgot that darkness is not the enemy of light but its necessary complement, that the void from which all things emerge is not empty but full of everything that has not yet taken form.
In the hoodoo and folk magic tradition, black is not the color of harm. It is the color of protection. It is the color of absorption. The capacity to take in negative energy, negative workings, negative intentions directed at you, and neutralize them completely, the way a black surface absorbs light rather than reflecting it back. When you burn a black candle for protection, you are not sending anything harmful anywhere. You are creating a field of absorption around yourself that takes in what is directed at you and destroys it before it can reach you. That is not evil. That is one of the most powerful forms of spiritual self-defense available.
Black is also the color of banishing — the removal of what does not belong. The person who will not leave your life. The energy that has settled into your home and made it feel heavy and wrong. The habit, the pattern, the situation, the chapter of life that needs to end and has been refusing to end. Black burns it away. Black absorbs it. Black removes it with the finality of the night that comes and takes the day with it, completely and without negotiation.
And black is the color of the deep mystery — the primordial darkness before creation, the void that is not empty but pregnant with everything that has not yet been born. Shadow work. The unconscious. The parts of the self that have been hidden and need to be brought into the light to be integrated. Black holds all of that too, with the same capacity for absorption and transformation that makes it the most powerful protective color in the tradition.
The Black 7 Day Glass Candle carries that absorbing, banishing, protecting, ending energy through seven full days of burning.

How to Work This Candle
Be clear about what you are removing or protecting against — the black candle works best when it has a specific target. Write your petition naming what needs to be banished, what needs to be bound, what needs to end, what you need to be protected from. Be direct. Black does not respond to vagueness — it responds to the clear, firm intention of someone who knows exactly what they need gone. Place the petition beneath the candle. Dress the top of the glass with Banishing oil, Protection oil, Reversing oil, or Fiery Wall of Protection oil depending on your primary intention. Black pepper, sulfur, and salt are traditional additions to banishing work — a pinch of any of these placed around the base of the candle reinforces the working. Burn this candle away from your other candles and away from your altar if possible — it is doing heavy absorption work and should have its own space. When it has finished burning, dispose of the remains away from your home: at a crossroads, in running water, or in a trash receptacle away from your property. Do not keep the remnants of a banishing candle in your home. The work is done. Let it go.
Each candle is approximately 8 inches tall and burns for up to 7 days.
